Coquille : Oregon
Coquille is a city that is the county seat of Coos County, Oregon. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,184. The primary economic base is the timber industry. The city derives its name from the Coquille Indian tribe.
Geography
Coquille is located at 43°10′46″ North, 124°11′15″ West (43.179528, -124.187582)1. Coquille is bordered by the Coquille River.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.1 km² (2.7 mi²). 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.37% is water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,184 people, 1,686 households, and 1,129 families residing in the city. The population density is 593.9/km² (1,538.3/mi²). There are 1,850 housing units at an average density of 262.6/km² (680.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 92.64% White, 0.50% African American, 1.77% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 1.60% from other races, and 2.99% from two or more races. 4.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
