Ridgeland is a city located in Madison County, Mississippi. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 20,173.
Geography
Ridgeland is located at 32°25′8″ North, 90°7′30″ West (32.418847, -90.124933)1, between Madison to the north and Jackson to the south. This suburban community enjoys its location adjacent to the Ross Barnett Reservoir.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 45.9 km² (17.7 mi²). 41.2 km² (15.9 mi²) of it is land and 4.7 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.16% water, mostly due to the location of the Ross Barnett Reservoir.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 20,173 people, 9,267 households, and 5,022 families residing in the city. The population density is 489.2/km² (1,267.4/mi²). There are 9,930 housing units at an average density of 240.8/km² (623.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 77.05% White, 18.44% African American, 0.15% Native American, 2.95% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.55% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 1.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
